Mystic Tongues

I have seen the sun shatter
into a million pieces upon your chest
it told our story –
in poetry we spoke
from left to right
in mystic tongues,
we etched our names
in all that light
then flipped to last page,
our happy ending.

  1. “I have seen the sun shatter

    ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤

Such a STRONG opening. Oh, my! That is amazing. I love how you delved into the theme of happy endings in life. Beautifully penned and visceral.

  2. I am literally swooning right now 😀 I really love how you begin with the opening image of the sun and the idea that it shatters “into a million pieces upon your chest/it told our story – in poetry.”.. it is glorious, poignant, passionate and has a lasting impact on the reader 💝 I always savor your poems and save them for the last. You never disappoint 🙂

  3. I felt a flood of romance in the opening lines, Tricia, and I love the lines:
    ‘we etched our names
    in all that light
    then flipped to last page,
    our happy ending’.

  4. Skipping to our happy ending has a note of finality about it that makes me pause. Maybe you’re right, happiness can’t last and when we get there, we have nowhere left to go.
