We fight old battles
our swords dipped
we climb and sit
on the sunlit
where the snow never melts and
everything shines like
watching, staring, waiting
for the kill
We fight like two armies
who know nothing else
Raise your flag
close your eyes
surrender your sword
you’ve already won

This is quite beautiful … the image and words work well together.
Thanks, Helen, glad you enjoyed it! 💕
Quite s sensual touch here Tricia, in a very nice piece — of course, perhaps it’s all in the way I’m holding what you’ve written?
Thanks, Rob! It is a love story in the end. Perhaps love can ignite more wars than hate.
Thanks so much! 🥰
A very beautiful poem, I loved it.
Beautiful. Words and image intertwined perfectly.
Thanks for your comment! 💖
Relationships are often like war, Tricia. Nicely done!
Thanks so much, Kim! ❣️
Vow, very creative, loved it!
Good to hear! Thanks, Jay! 💞
I loved the photo that you selected – it really fit the poem, Tricia.
The whole thing was intense.
Thanks, David! 💕
I love how you’ve invoked war on a personal scale, but linked this to larger conflicts. Beautiful!
Thanks, Ingrid ❣️
Lovely, and such a good end!
I’m glad you liked it! Thanks for reading! 💖
Fine work indeed, TS. My guess is that she’ll probably uncross those ankles, eh?
Haha! Deep thoughts. Thanks for reading! 💖
Oh my 😀 this is incredibly gorgeous! 💝 I resonate with; “We fight like two armies who know nothing else.”
So happy it touched you! It was an older poem I edited and polished up. Thanks! 🥰
You’re most most welcome! 💝
I think there is always a way to end (or avoid) a war… this is one of the best.
💯 thanks for the prompt, Bjorn! 💞
This is an interesting poem to me….the image for me, is of the soldier come back from war and his lover embracing him in her patriotic skirt. The words are perhaps of the “war” the disagreements they’ve had in the past between them. Perhaps she is so thrilled to have him back from war that it has eased their disagreements and their love shall now be stronger?
It is about conflict within any marriage really, but I liked the image so included it. Military marriages do have a very high divorce rate because of the extra stresses involved from deployments and moving around so much. I think the idea is for the couple to surrender to one another and realize it doesn’t have to be more war. 💖
