Surrender

We fight old battles

our swords dipped

in fear

we climb and sit

on the sunlit

 mountaintop

where the snow never melts and

everything shines like

your eyes

 watching, staring, waiting

for the kill

We fight like two armies

who know nothing else

Raise your flag

close your eyes

surrender your sword

Be still

and know

you’ve already won

  1. Oh my 😀 this is incredibly gorgeous! 💝 I resonate with; “We fight like two armies who know nothing else.”

  2. This is an interesting poem to me….the image for me, is of the soldier come back from war and his lover embracing him in her patriotic skirt. The words are perhaps of the “war” the disagreements they’ve had in the past between them. Perhaps she is so thrilled to have him back from war that it has eased their disagreements and their love shall now be stronger?

    1. It is about conflict within any marriage really, but I liked the image so included it. Military marriages do have a very high divorce rate because of the extra stresses involved from deployments and moving around so much. I think the idea is for the couple to surrender to one another and realize it doesn’t have to be more war. 💖
