Black Desires

I am Black
close your eyes and see
the color of ink
God’s pen
His wink

DON’T DEFINE ME

I am the void that cradles stars
the top hat blown away
the magician’s dark eyes
your shadow
as you pray

I’M NOT EVIL

Judge me not
But I’m okay with dirty looks
focused
and sharp
keep staring
don’t stop

WE’VE BEEN HERE BEFORE

but your memory is gone
for your desires
IGNITED
and rose up
with the dawn.

  1. Black has often been overlooked as a colour but here you describe black beautifully. ‘I am the void that cradles stars’ – love this!

  2. Tricia,
Black “as the magician’s dark eyes” is pure magic in itself, evokes unanticipated outcomes, temptations, promises. But I declare, I do not judge! 😀

  3. I’m so pleased you’ve written about my favourite colour to wear, Tricia. I defy anyone who says black is not a colour! I love ‘close your eyes and see the color of ink’ and ‘I am the void that cradles stars’.

  4. Love this especially; “but your memory is gone for your desires IGNITED
and rose up with the dawn.” Yes, yes! 😀
