The teacher told me to write
and not stop
~automatic writing~
lose myself and let go
even though the
the last idea
may hang above my head
within a
vortex of dark blue ~
it rains in time
and sometimes rhymes
just muddle through.
Today De hosts the Quadrille at dVerse where our poems must be 44 words and include the word: go.
This is particularly wonderful:
“it rains in time
and sometimes rhymes
just muddle through.”
Thanks, De! I liked how that line just flowed, myself. ❤
I think we need those rhymes that come with the flow… (or maybe it’s the rhymes that are the force of the stream)
Thanks, Bjorn! It ebbs and flows and sometimes floods! 😉
Oh I love this description, Tricia!
‘it rains in time
and sometimes rhymes
just muddle through.’
I love this type of writing. Usually I think of the first line first, but occasionally I’ve come up with the last line first and tried to find a way to it!
Yes, it’s good to have an image or an overriding theme, but sometimes just an emotion is enough! 💕
Oh this is just beautiful! I agree; “sometimes rhymes just muddle through.” 😀
Thanks, Sanaa! My rhymes always surprise me, 😆
I love those last three lines–sometimes that’s exactly how it works. 😀
Thanks, Merril, it’s often hard to describe the writing process, but it feels like being rained on at times! 🌧
Interesting. I don’t feel rained on–sometimes carried along on a current perhaps. 😀
Yes, both ways, it feels like it’s an act that is outside of our conscious mind at least. It comes from the subconscious and appears in the conscious where we write it down. Like water flowing.
There is a sense in which writing poetry is like letting go, accessing that “automatic writing” dimension of our subconscious.
Yes, I think that’s what I love most, the interaction with that dimension of ourselves. 💕
I’m so with you, Tricia.

Great minds! ✨ Thanks, David!
Sometimes ya just gotta go with flow, eh? You done good here, Tricia.
Thanks, Ron! You summed it up! 🙏
I like the whimsy in this. So true about the pouring it out on the page and then shaping it into something you like.
Thanks, Lisa! It’s fun to think about the process because it feels so elusive at times! 💕
You’re welcome.
Just muddle through … oh how often I practice this!! Great write.
Thanks so much, Beverly! 💖
I do agree. Write Write Write
Much💗love
Yes! 💕
Sometimes poets pray for rain…delightful write-ful, Tricia!
Thanks so much, Lynn! 🥰
My pleasure!
A great poem. I believe your teacher was right! Train of consciousness writing is a wonderful way to express yourself. Editing can come after.
Yes, it’s a way to overcome writer’s block, just keep writing! 📝
It works!
Perfect description of the way one cannot chase inspiration (and then there’s the part where you go back and read it, thinking, heavens that’s good, did /I/ write that?)
Thanks, Xan! Yes, I know what you mean, it doesn’t even sound like I wrote some stuff, haha!
