You xertz hot tea while I shred every flower Let’s leave the calyx of the wilting rose alone Don’t smoke it for fun Insecurities bloom and I’m seeded in rocks see your reflection of pain hidden wounds black desires I'm sliced and diced again
A quadrille for dverse where Merril asks us to write a poem in exactly 44 words and use the word “seed” or a form of it
I like “I’m seeded in rocks,” but I think I’ll stay out of this garden! 😀
Yes, best to steer clear! 😆 Went a little dark today with the prompt. It’s cloudy here. Thanks for hosting! ❤
You’re welcome!😀
In 44 words you’ve said a 101 things about this person’s fragmented state of mind! Her/His ego may be on the rocks but so is this relationship. A whole lot of hurt is all they seem to have in common. I love your sharp, edgy poetic style, Tricia!
Thanks, Dora! I have rewritten this poem a few different times over the years and I think it just keeps getting darker and better. 🌹
It’s replete with black humor, or should I say, half-buried savagery. Well done. ∼🕊
Thanks! 🍷
Ooh this is deliciously dark and potent, Tricia!! Wowww! 😀 I love; “seeded in rocks,” and the image of black desires. We must be careful what is sown in a relationship. 💝💝
I appreciate your comments, Sanaa! 🌹
sliced and diced again and again is what makes us poets
I can agree with that. How else can we bleed onto the page? ❤🙏❤
I xertz hot tea every morning. Now I know what to call it. Intriguing, Tricia.
Thanks for your comment! Xertz was a twitter word prompt long ago, isn’t it great! 🌹
Yup!
I love the work you managed to put into so few words. Excellent physical poetry – it’s esoteric and confusing, but emotional and hits me in a place I thought well-numbed. I adore that phrase, “seeded in rocks” and I wonder if the speaker is the sort whose roots will penetrate to the earth all the same out of spite. Lovely stuff.
Thanks so much! I’m glad that phrase touched you and yes, I think she’ll grow and outgrow the guy! 💕
I like the darkness here Tricia, very engaging! 😏
Thanks, Robl! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🌹
I liked this a lot. This line really resonated with me:
” Insecurities bloomnand I’m seeded in rocks” Brilliant ☺️
Thanks so much, Christine! 💕
I feel undertones of tragedy and it’s haunting here! A remarkable poem from start to finish, and I love how dark this is. An amazing poem!
Thanks, Lucy! Pleased to hear the darkness worked for you, as you have mastered the genre so well in your Little Writing Workshop of Horrors! 😊
❤ ❤ ❤
I’m curious about ‘the calyx of the wilting rose’ now Tricia…enticingly written!
Thanks! I learned it’s the calyx of cannabis people smoke to get high, so I replaced with the rose here as it seems cruel to destroy a flower for your own kicks. I’ve never smoked anything, I promise! 🌸
😉 🌹
I love the dark edge of your quadrille, Tricia, and the way you left us to fill in the spaces in this exploration of what seems to be a tormented mind, especially in the lines:
‘Insecurities bloom
and I’m seeded in rocks’
and ‘I’m sliced and diced again’.
Appreciate your feedback, Kim! 💕
That ending packs a real gut punch, Tricia. Oof. Well done!
❤
David
Thanks, David! 💝
LOL LOL, the image and poem a perfect blend of dark and light.
Thanks, Helen! Pleased you enjoyed it! 💕
Such a magic mix you’ve concocted from the seed (almost Grace Slick on Ipomoea)
Thanks, Laura! Pleased you enjoyed it! 🌹
Wow, so much said in few words… and the image is just perfect for the sliced and diced.
Thanks, Bjorn! Appreciate the feedback! 🌹
I like this, the images and the chopped up style.
Appreciate your thoughts, Jane! 🌹
