33% of me is here laughing as I weep crouched under sharp stars The trees are restless swaying in the wind they are 90% gone underground to realms around the bend Don't ask them for directions You may ask the dirt to cradle your foot allow it to seep between ten toes as eleven flowers bloom in poetry and prose take my hand as the universe unfolds "You complete me" in waves and just as the seas grasp land we discover new ways to expand

The quote included in my poem above is from Jerry Maguire.

I love how you get there by finding strength in the dirt… feet finding strength in the soil… like trees who are 90 % below. love how you find equilibrium, maybe to set sail
Yes! Thanks for your thoughts, they are COMPLETELY perfect! ๐๐ธ๐บ๐ท
I love this Tricia: so many clever devices! The percentages, the enjambment, the form…but most of all I love the sound and playfulness of your poem ๐
You complete my comment section, Ingrid! ๐ So happy you enjoyed it! ๐
๐๐๐
Your percentages, your juxtapositioning (laughing as I weep; don’t ask them for directions but you may ask the dirt; ten toes are eleven), the pacing, the telling to “take my hand” and then the sea….just a great write for the line.
Thanks, Lillian, I never used to care for that line, “you complete me,” so much, but then I realized we all complete one another and it’s just a poetic union of our souls here! โจ
This is absolutely spectacular! ๐ I so love the emotions in; “You may ask the dirt to cradle your foot/allow it to seep between ten toes as eleven flowers bloom in poetry and prose.” *Applauds* ๐๐
Thanks, Sanaa! ๐๐๐ธ๐บ๐ท๐
Just as the seas grasp land, we expand …. a timely phrase, and chilling.
Thanks, Beverly! ๐ We are always being pushed somewhere!
I’ll have what Ingrid’s having ๐ because she really covered it all. I will add that the ending with it’s softening touch of internal rhyme just topped it off!
Thanks, Mish! Really enjoyed your prompt this week, I feel like the vibes of our little group really enhances each write! โจ
Stellar poem that expands the universe. Lovely writing, Tricia!
Thanks, Lisa! Please it resonated! ๐๐ท๐บ
๐ You’re welcome โค
What’ve we got but Mother Dirt to strengthen us, eh? Little else, I think.
Great work, TS.
Thanks, Ron! It’s cheap at least โบ๏ธ
I loved all the imagery in this poem, Tricia, a scene vividly painted. I love the lines: laughing as I weep crouched under sharp stars / and the rhyme at the end: just as the seas grasp land we discover new ways to expand โค
Thanks, Sunra! Nice to hear those lines resonated with you! ๐
I so love to read nature inspired poems. I admire the word placement and verses complementing the famous quote. This is part is my favorite:
flowers bloom
in poetry and prose
Thanks, Grace! So happy those lines touched you! ๐บ๐ท๐ธ
I love you way youโve presented this poem, how it cascades down the page, itโs beautiful… then you get to the words… in the imagery of crouching to avoid the sharp stars… then the trees going to their roots – its great.
Thanks Darius! I enjoy playing with the form lately, it’s always good to hear when it works! ๐๐๐
Ooooooh, love this! Such a different poem that completely explains everything!
Thanks, Carol! I hope I explained at least something! ๐
I just love this one! It feels both mysterious and wise. Your poem is the Oracle. It is perfect words strung on a necklace. It feels like a map to find our way home.
I’ll take it! ๐ฅฐ Thanks for your kind words, I was hoping to strike a chord of mysticism and unity! ๐
you cannot see me but i am standing and clapping, i believe deserves some. how you turned from trees to dirt to beyond expansion is beyond me. pure genius, Tricia.
Aww, feeling the love! ๐ฅฐ Thanks for your kind words!
I like the shape and layout of this poem, Tricia, and the contrast of the โsharp starsโ with the seeping dirt and the seas grasping land. Youโve gathered together the different worlds above and underground and folded and unfolded them like a magic trick. The final lines are stunning.
Thanks so much, Kim! I did try to hit everything above and below. โค๐โค
Touching verses! Loved every word of poem, placed so beautifully. Good one โ๏ธ
Thanks so much, pleased they touched you! ๐
Now this tickles the imagination:
“You may ask the dirt
to cradle your foot
allow it to seep between
ten toes as eleven
flowers bloom
in poetry and prose”
Thanks Ken! Glad you enjoyed those lines! ๐
One to read and reread. There’s a lot in it. Funny we both had laughter and weeping.
Thanks, Jane! ๐
I am a big fan of letting words and lines scamper across the page..an e.e. cummings feel to it. Clever and well crafted word-smithing as well. I believe that true love, mixed with sex allows two incomplete beings to become one complete being for a few precious seconds.
Thanks Glenn! I appreciate your thoughts and agree we do have those moments! โจ
Your poem is lovely …..
Thanks, Helen! ๐
Very nicely done Tricia!
Thanks so much, Dwight! ๐
Your are welcome!
Wow! I really enjoyed reading this. I love how the dirt grounded you, and the โseas grasp the landโ. Beautiful โบ๏ธ
Thanks so much, Christine! I appreciate your thoughts! โฃ๏ธ
That is just lovely.
Thanks so much, Sean! ๐
The image of ‘sharp stars’ seems very threatening, Tricia!
