you toyed with me stretched my coils with words that hurt oh how I cried missing vowels void of rhyme where was the capitalized i the pain it lingered shrunk me down in curious form I slunk off the page And closed the book.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille Monday: A Curiosity of Poems
I love it… the way you used shrunk and slunk made me feel the ways to belittle someone.
Thanks, Bjorn! Shrunk and slunk were unintentional rhymes, haha!
You’ve played not only with words but also with shape and form, Tricia. So enjoyable! What a way to be toyed with, having your coils stretched with words that hurt! Too bad the ‘capitalised I’ slunk off the page and closed the book.
Thanks, Kim! I feel like with most things in life we have to be pushed to our breaking point to move. The slinky toy works well for this metaphor!
Slinking out is probably better than staying under such circumstances! I like the ‘stepped’ form which mimics a staircase which a slinky might slink down…
Thanks, Ingrid! It’s a sad poem but also empowering to close a bad chapter!
OH! I absolutely love the slinky way this falls. Love can be so sneaky like that.
Thanks, De! Thanks for hosting, I love a good quadrille!
wow – that is an incredible image.
such a sad poem, Tricia 😦
-David
Thanks, David! Yes, sad. Such is life sometimes!
Quadrilles always seem to be a preface for something longer, but yours is tight and complete, with lovely shapes and scampering words; loved it.
Thanks, Glenn! I love the challenge of shorter forms, lately. 💕
Oh, I love your slinky play on words/letters in this one. Vey well done. Love the form as well!
Thanks, Dwight! 💖
Tricia, visceral-ness of this makes me shrink as I read it. Stretched coils, losing vowels, slinking away, no more capital “I” a Slinky is a perfect choice and then you put it in the format of a slinky. Powerful and clever. What I like best about it is your observation that those hurting encounters twist us into curious forms.
Thanks for your comment, Lisa! It does feel like our guts are twisted up sometimes. Unrecognizable as we make our exit. Not just in romantic relationships either. So many relationships can twist us!
You’re very welcome, Tricia.
Quadrillific work, TS. Slinky’s the perfect image to convey the emotion you intend. Well done!
Thanks so much, Ron! 💗
Very creative, shape wise and metaphor wise.
Thanks so much, Susan! 💗
Love the format and word play and that shrinking of the capitalized i.
A sad emotional angst poem but well done with giving this a fresh new perspective.
Thanks, Grace, I appreciate your thoughts! 💖
This is an extremely clever poem! Too bad about your I.
Thanks, Beverly! 💕
I love the format and the words. It conjures that sinking feeling when a relationship goes awry.
Thanks, Maggie! 💖
Love, love, love this. It truly does show how curiosity can further cause us pain and that perhaps the knowledge isn’t worth it, especially if it’s in the form of belittling others. Beautifully and cleverly written, Tricia. I feel the strength at the end with closing the book. It’s freeing and a sign of a hope to move on, even if it hurts. Brilliant.
Thanks so much, Lucy, really pleased you could feel the strength in the closing as it is sometimes necessary and freeing to move on!
love the form here and how you used curiosity creatively, Tricia!
Appreciate your feedback, thanks! 🥰
The image you chose, the quadrille you composed … perfection.
So happy you think so! Thanks, Helen! 💕
I really liked this poem, especially lines about crying words missing vowels without rhyme.
Thanks so much, Arcadia! 💝
I love how you took the prompt and used the unexpected definition of the word! Very creative!
Thanks so much, Ren! 💗
Pretty interesting play of words!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You have a way with words! And the more I read I get inspired.
And the more I read I want to talk lol!
