Nefelibata

I used to hang with loose

thumbs from the edge

of your moon

          I understand the wild

          swing of ocean

                                  waves

~in salty waters~

              I was saved

     Now I’m a Nefelibata

traversing clouds

              I think I’ll stay

and drink up dreams
                          in dazzling day.

Nefelibata –
A creative person who lives in the clouds of her own imagination or dreams.

Written for dVerse, where Sarah hosts and asks us to write ekphrastic poems inspired by the art of Fay Collins, who tragically passed from cancer this year.

  1. What a wonderful, wonderful start yo your lovely poem, that settles the reader immediately. A lovely little read.

  2. Tricia, this reached out and lifted me — I needed that in these recent days! So lovely… 🙂 ..and you lead me to a new and wonderful word. I relate so to Nefelibata… very cool! 👍🏼

  3. “stay and drink up dreams”: as Nefelibata do, “in a dazzling day” — Creatives are just that thirsty and ambitious. Love your whimsical style, Tricia. 🌙❤️

  4. Where did you ever find such a marvelous word? Wherever you found it, you’ve more than done it justice with this wonderful, luminous poem.

  5. This is sheer poetic brilliance! 😀 I so love the term “Nefelibata,” and resonate strongly with the idea of being saved. 💝💝
