Is it illogical to think you might swing
down on a rope from a bell tower
and take a stroll with me in France?
Even if you can’t dance like Gene Kelly
like in An American in Paris
we could chat by the river
and pretend we are Cary Grant
and Audrey Hepburn discussing
who we don’t suspect and who
we do while licking ice-cream
off our fingers.
Written for dVerse Poetics where Sanaa hosts today and asks us to choose
one of the following two options:
Write a poem that’s loosely based on French ideals and culture. You may
opt to share your experience of visiting France and many of its lovely cities
if you have done so. ✅
OR
Write a poem using the poetic form “Rimas Dissolutas.” The choice of topic
is entirely up to you.
If you watch the Charade clip posted above first, you may comprehend my illogical poem a little bit more! 😄
Stunning write, Tricia 😀 I love the atmosphere that you have set here especially; “Even if you can’t dance like Gene Kelly like in An American in Paris/we could chat by the river and pretend we are Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn discussing.” Yes! Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt, mon amour 💝💝
I think this will be a favorite poem of mine now, just because it was so much fun writing it, thanks for the prompt, Sanaa!! 💞
I loved that film!
It’s a favorite of mine, too! I love anything with Cary Grant, to be honest. 😍
Me too. Husband hates him. He says it’s because he shouts all the time.
😄 Well, we have a good taste at least!!
Bringing up Baby is one of the funniest films ever.
Yes, I like Katherine Hepburn as well. Also love Notorious with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. The writing is so good in old movies!!
Katherine Hepburn was a tremendous actress. Did you see The Lion in Winter with her and Peter O’Toole? Such a good film and such great dialogue.
Yes, it’s been a while though on that one. She is a favorite of mine too. I love her with Spencer Tracy in all those movies as well!!
🙂
I’m a big fan of Charade. Very nice poem
Thanks so much! It’s a great movie and provided some fun inspiration! 💞
I recall a different set of comments on poetry following the same subject. Funny how you ended up using it as a central concept! Splendid nonsense, elegant in style, a pleasure to behold.
So pleased you enjoyed it, Masa! 💓
An American in Paris is one of my favorite musicals! Great poem, and fun winding of different movies!
Thanks so much, Phillip, glad you enjoyed! 💞
I could picture the scene and dream that some day I will travel there (after the pandemic). Love this one!!!
Thanks, Grace! It will be nice to travel again once the craziness is over! 💓
I love that last stanza
Thrilled you do, thanks!! 💞
Fun frolic, Tricia. Finger licking might be a thing of the past, but these dreams do persist. Enjoyed your revery.
Thanks K! I need to get to France, I ‘m so deprived, but I can dream!! 💓
Very nice..
I love this..
Thank you! ❣️
Swung on many ropes never with the illogical even though I can dance like Gene Kelly, never been to France. Love the poem and and the video to take us back in time Tricia!
💖
Thanks for coming along for the trip, Cindy! 💞
pleasure!
💖
Felt myself dancing with you. Loved it.
Thanks so much! 💖
I found the movie clip and your poem absolutely delightful, Tricia! I am going to have to watch the whole movie now ❤️
It’s a favorite! Let me know if it’s the first time you’ve watched it what you think! ❣️
It will be! And it’s on Amazon, so I plan to watch it tonight once the kids are in bed… 😊
Hope you enjoyed ❣️
It’s still afternoon, but I’ll let you know 😊
I just remembered the time difference! 😄
You gave France a lovely image there, with that nostalgic look…very nice..
Thanks so much, Ain! ❣️
Yep, Tricia, totally illogical 😉
❤
David
😄 The best poems are!
A beautiful poem, Tricia! It goes well with Charade clip.
So pleased you enjoyed it! 💞
A delight, Tricia–yes, to talk like Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant–love that last stanza!
I love Charade! And I could jump in on your conversation with Jane. Notorious is one of my all-time favorite movies, and The Lion in Winter is wonderful. Older child graduated from Bryn Mawr College–on the tour they always point out Katherine Hepburn’s dorm room. 😀
Thanks Merril! Wow, Bryn Mawr is prestigious! Katherine Hepburn seemed so wise in her interviews, very cool person! Glad you enjoyed the poem, it’s fun to look back at the old movies! 🍿
It is, and I did!
Not only Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant but also the poor Humpback of Notre Dame… Paris is a city where all the fantasies can become alive simply by being there.
Yes, so much history and culture! I need a ticket there eventually. Thanks, Bjorn! 💓
Love this, it’s so good!
love your comment, Lucy! 💓
Nicely done. I enjoyed the video clip.
Thanks, Dwight, I thought it would entertain! 💓
Yes, it did! Great photo!
You tie France and romance together – just the way it should be.
Thanks so much, Sean! 💓
Loved your post…the poem was sweet even without the clip!
Thanks so much, Sadhna! 🥰
