It can happen at any time
you sneeze
with eyes wide
open and
nobody says
“bless you”
or even Achoo
and you slip to the other side
and as some winged fish
drink the river dry
now I suffer from déjà vu
landlocked –
but floating.

Written for dVerse Poets Pub for Quadrille Monday where De challenges us to write a poem in 44 words that uses some form of the prompt word: wing
Beautiful piece Tricia 👏👏👏
Thanks! It was a fun challenge skimming this one down to 44 words! 🐟❤️
My pleasure hon 👏👏👏
Oh, I like this very much. Intriguing, and fun to ponder.
Thanks, De, I love writing to the quadrille prompts! 💝
I really feel the sense of being lonely or even an outcast. Love it
Thanks, Bjorn, it’s supposed to be a disconnected feeling, for sure!
A quadrille to return to, to dip into, Tricia. Now I’m trying not to sneeze.
I had always heard as a kid that if you sneeze with your eyes open your eyeballs will fall out. But that wasn’t quite as poetic as taking a quick trip to the other side, so that version got nixed! 😄
great quadrille. really enjoyed this
Great to hear, Rog! 💝
really nicely done Tricia.. Bless you!!! 💞
Thanks, Cindy! Blessings back at ya! 💝
You’re welcome Tricia and thanks my friend!
❤️❤️❤️
An open eyed sneeze will always lead to great adventure
😄 It’s dangerous but all the great things are!
Gesundheit! And thanks for the quadriliffic work!
Thanks! 🥰 I suppose that word helps, but it didn’t rhyme with bless you, achoo, or deja vu, so it didn’t sneak into my poem! 😄
landlocked but floating…I think I know that feeling. (K)
I think creative types always have one foot in another world! 💖
“and you slip to the other side” is so intriguing to me. I like the mysteriousness of your quadrille.
Thanks, Lisa! I feel like a good sneeze with eyes open could possibly provoke an out of body experience and jangle the chakras just enough to float through the rest of one’s life. 😄
You like to live dangerously! lol
👍💯
Nicely done, Tricia. Is that really possible… to sneeze with eyes wide open?
It’s not one of my skills ☺️ I tried once in my rebellious youth but couldn’t do it! 😆
Haha… sneezing is a powerful force!
Very true!
A wonderful description of that ‘Fish out if water’ feeling. Love it! ☺️💕
Thanks, Christine, yes, poor fishy! 🐠🐟🐡
Our latest taboo. This cheeky one is too adorable. I still say ‘bless you’ by the way, while spritzing my magic tonic in the air to ward off the willies. 😉
Yes, so many are getting some bugs now, my sister was sneezing a lot this morning so I think it inspired the write ✍️ 🤧
Gesundheit to your sister. At least she spread something more than water molecules. 😉 I’ve had lots of students out sick, including my night class today. And so it goes…
💓
This… I just laughed at first 🤣 It’s funny and meaningful at the same time. Oh I love this 💖
Happy it brought a laugh, I think we all need to laugh more, thanks so much, Lam! 💝
Most welcome, Tricia. Yes, we all need to crack a bit
💯
Tricia, loved the image of a winged fish drinking the river dry! ❤️
Thanks, Punam, so happy you appreciate the odd things that pop into my head! 🐡🐟🐠
It’s always the odd things that attract. You are welcome. 😊
🥰
This sounds like a fun trip to me!
You’re right, I don’t think I’m deterring many from trying the open-eyed sneeze 🤧 here! 😆
So beautiful, thought provoking!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! 🥰
Absolutely a wonderful quadrille. A simple “bless you” can bring so much healing.
Much💛love
Thanks, Gillena, happy you enjoyed! 💖
Bless you! And you made an excellent point – you can’t sneeze with your eyes open! This was great!
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed! 💝
💕
That a sneeze can make loneliness lonelier, a paradox.
Thanks, Dora! It’s a little slip into a realm of disconnectedness! But probably part of the human experience! 😄
Beautiful write, Tricia. 💞
Thanks so much, Jeff! 🥰
You’re most welcome, Tricia! ♥️
