In a parallel universe, in space, in time, I sit thousands of feet above the sea, dressed in clouds. My imagination grows a tail and sailors think they see a dragon. They’re not wrong.
I used to hang with loose thumbs from the edge of the moon, so I’m accustomed to the swing of wild waves. I anchor myself to passive verbs in boring stories, where I can slice my soul, and release the ancient sludge in chewable pieces to hungry seagulls.
The dark bits dissolve under their tiny tongues, and they lean forward, head down, and produce a horrid choking call. Their eyes turn from warm brown to cool black as they digest the knowledge they were never designed to comprehend.
The grey sea casts its spell and I’m transformed, once again.
What am I now? Just a distant star, praying for oxygen.

“In space in time I sit thousands of feet above the sea”
From May Sarton, “Meditation in Sunlight”
I like how you describe this being, I like its quiet sentience.
Thanks, Lisa!! I channeled this from somewhere…😄
You’re welcome. It could be the protagonist of your next book 🙂
I think it’s Satan!! 😅 Maybe I will channel more later! Thanks! 💗
Oh my word! Maybe not?
I need therapy now! 😄
Great sequence of images. I really enjoyed this piece.
Thanks, Sarah!! I think I’m just in a grey place today, but the meditative write was very cathartic! 💗
I love this, Tricia ❤

Thanks, David, love that you do!! 🖤
I really like how you’ve painted these images, these scenes – they are so vibrant and alive. A wonderful interpretation of the lines, offered to us in such amazing details. I especially like how you’ve given the gulls bits they were never meant to comprehend – and wow, those lines about hanging from the thumbs on the moon – delicious! Brava!
Thanks, I was feeling the poetry and prose in an interesting combo, so glad you enjoyed it!! 🖤
It looks like you’re describing that cloud. Always transforming. (K)
Yes, the cloud inspired me! Change is always a constant in space and time! 💗
It is indeed.
💗
The best last line of the evening. Kuddos, Tricia. Such fun in 144 words.
Thanks so much! I was aiming for some dark humor!! 🖤
🎯 I’d say you def. hit the mark.
🖤🌷🖤
One day, we will all, eventually, become a part of the, universe, not taking up any, physical, space anymore…
It’s so much fun to ponder! Thanks for reading! 🌸💐🌸
You blew my mind with your creativity and flow! 👏👏👏
Aww, thanks! I really enjoyed going dark in this one!🖤🌷🖤
I really love this one, Tricia. One of your best. Such great use of language and imagery! I love “dressed in clouds” and the hanging by thumbs, and many more.
Thanks, Merril! I had just been thinking about the sea before I saw the prompt, so I knew I was in the right headspace to hover above it! Appreciate you hosting! 🌸💐🌸
You’re welcome. Thank you for taking part! 😊
Enjoyed!! 🥰
You have some amazing imagery going on here, Tricia!

A very creative poem, Tricia! I love this line… My imagination grows a tail and sailors think they see a dragon.
Thanks, Dwight! I do enjoy keeping my head in the clouds! ☁️💗☁️
Ha ha… nothing wrong with that! :>)
👍💗
Wow Tricia, this is out of this world AMAZING!!! It is melodic and soothing and this magical flow you’ve created is addicting to read. I absolutely LOVE the ending, leaves the reader pondering deep concepts and touched within. Fantastically done as always, dear friend 🤍🤗
Thanks, Grace! I enjoyed writing something longer than a poem this time. I think the sea is calling me… I need to go!! 😄
Magic. I will never look at clouds in the same way, or read a book… a shapeshifter alien…
Could be!! 😄 I think the aliens like to visit me! 🤣👽
Fantastic imagery 🙂
Thanks so much! 💗
you are welcome 💕
