The black sky had cracks where the light broke through. He enjoyed keeping time with the stars.
One dewy morning he explained to his love how the Earth was his mother and the sky, his father. How the trees and flowers were his brothers and sisters.
That’s when she saw it. Inside one magical flower, the seed of a poem lay dormant.
“In my heart, you are my everything,” she confided.
Eventually they wed and he took her home to a castle that leaked, and she wept as large buckets collected rain, moonlight, magic. Any other witch would have known she was blessed!
For a while he kept it together, holding the crescent moon tightly under his tongue. Until she went too far.
“Is it just me or does this wet grass stink?” she asked, in between two shrill sneezes.
The honeymoon was over.
