this being human is like the stars
smothered in darkness
we learn to shine
our constellations
connect in stories divine
this being human is like the stars
the mass of the galaxy pulling
our weight – guiding us
circling, we spiral and wait
at times a few tens of km/s off
this being human is like the stars
random and ordered
refracted we are
placed without edits
designed flawlessly
this being human is like the stars
Today, Kim of Writing in North Norfolk is hosting dVerse Poetics and says:
The challenge is to write a metaphor poem that starts with the words ‘This being human is…’ It does not have to be in the same format or style as Rumi’s, and you can compare being human to anything you want: a building or place, an object, something natural or something manufactured, a ritual or an everyday act. It is up to you to explore whatever it is in your poem.
Beautifully, beautifully expressed. I’m in awe!
So pleased you liked it, I had a little fun google facts about stars! 🤩
“smothered in darkness, we learn to shine”…beautiful!
Thanks so much! 🌟
Such a wonderful metaphor, Tricia! I like”
“smothered in darkness
we learn to shine
our constellations
connect in stories divine”
and yes, we are flawlessly designed!
how else could it all work together so well?
Thanks, Lisa! 💖 Yes, how else could this world be so awesome without a brilliant creator! ✨
You’re so right!
I like the way you draw parallels between the stars and being human. Those kind of thoughts came to my mind too with this prompt. Your poem expresses them very fluently.
So pleased you enjoyed this. Thanks for your comment! ❤
Yep, stars. We won’t talk about the falling stars….
I almost made reference to it! 🤣 I think that might be another poem. Thanks, Beverly! 🙏
This is absolutely STUNNING!! 😀 I love; “this being human is like the stars
the mass of the galaxy pulling our weight.”💖💖
So happy those lines clicked for you. I appreciate your comments! ❤🙏
Fabulous!! Form, concept, expression… I loved it all! I rewrote my prosery. Five attempts. Posted it this morning. 🙂
Thank you!! ❤ I will check out your prosery, good to hear you posted it!
Well written👌🏻👍🏻✍🏻
Thank you! 🤩
Stellar work, TS> congrats.
Thank you! 🌟
My pleasure Tricia
placed without edits…so very true and still we do seem to work out okay
Yes, I tend to believe there’s a reason for everything lately, even the “typos” of life. 💞
Wow, Tricia I love how you explored your metaphor from so many different sides. It really has multiple facets! This is lovely 😀
Yours,
David
Yes, I wanted to blind you with starlight, David! 🌟 Thanks ☺️
A stunning metaphor poem, Tricia! Every time I meet another person (which is not often as we are still in lockdown) I will imagine them as a sparkling star. I love the image in the lines:
‘the mass of the galaxy pulling
our weight – guiding us
circling, we spiral and wait’.
Thanks Kim, I really enjoyed your prompt. I had fun googling facts about stars and throwing in tid bits. 💫🤩
I love how you look to the stars to find a definition of being. It’s a good place to look, I think!
I can always wax poetic about them! Thanks, Ingrid! 🌠
Me too 🌌
Beautiful poetry
✨ Thank you!! ✨
You are most welcome 🌺🌹🌺
A universe where we shine like stars…yes, flawlessly designed, both random and ordered! Beautiful, Tricia 🙂
🌟 Thanks so much, Lynn! 🌟
I often think that humanity is more the darkness between the stars, but I like your hopeful approach.
Yes, some dimmer bulbs out there! Thanks, Bjorn!
This is very beautiful….and uplifting.
Thanks, Sherry! So pleased to hear it uplifted you! 💫
This is exquisite Tricia.
Thanks Rob! Happy you enjoyed it! 🌟
Love that you compare it to stars–suddenly being human glimmered for me!
